Day 311: Freezers

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for freezers. What caused me to think about this was when I put something in the freezer and usually it is just automatic but this time I paused and thought about how hard it would be to not have a freezer. Not to make people feel old but there was a time when freezers didn't exist and then they were seen as a luxury. I am sure there there are still people who do not have a freezer. Freezers make food last longer. Freezers are great when you do a bunch of baking and store it in the freezer so you don't have to do baking every day or every week-you can pull some out of the freezer as you need it. You can buy larger amounts of meat and pay less at the same time and store it in the freezer. Chocolate lasts a very long time in the freezer. Marshmallows don't go hard in the freezer.  It would be impossible to buy ice cream if we didn't have a freezer unless we would eat the whole carton in one sitting. lol Our freezer is always full and we save money that way. We store fruit from the summer in the freezer so we can enjoy the surplus from summer over the winter. There are many benefits to freezers. I can not imagine being without one. For these reasons I am thankful for freezers.

Day 310: Free ice cream

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. First I would like to say that I am kind of surprised I haven't wrote about ice cream. I thought for sure I had because I absolutely love ice cream. Secondly, I have to admit I am starting to run stuck some days and I have to think on what to post for a bit. I have posted over 300 blessings and some are material but I am still very thankful to have them. So I suppose it isn't so awful that I am starting to have to really think about it. I am thankful for free ice cream today. Awhile back there was a promotion with General Mills Cereal that if you bought a box then you get a coupon for free ice cream. Well we had a couple and the coupons expire today so I had to use it despite still having some ice cream in the freezer. I love ice cream first off and to have free ice cream is even better!!! Gone are the days you get cheap little toys that you toss with in a week or they break within a week. Now cereal has free ice cream and free books/magazine subscriptions or free beach towels etc. Sometimes the quality is not so good still but what do you expect? It is a free product in a cereal box and it can't always be very good quality. I like the freebies that are food because it is usually for something brand name and you can pick it up in the store and not wait for Canada post to get it to you with the chance you never even see it because it gets lost or goes to the wrong address. I do like the free books though too. Anyways I love free ice cream. :) I am also thankful for free ice cream and I hope it is a promo that they have again next year. :)

Day 309: winning contests

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for winning contests. Well one in particular anyways. I won the first thing every today!!! Well technically I have won a radio birthday contest before too I guess. Anyways this is the second time I have won something. lol I became a member of Cat Chats and it is this great online forum where you talk about cats. I am a cat lover and have a cat and love the forum. :) They had a contest where you answer some questions about your cat and you get entered for a 20.00 amazon.ca gift card. I wasn't answering the questions to win anything because I really don't have much luck normally. Well I was very pleasantly surprised this morning to discover I won!!! This was definitely the highlight of my day and made me feel good. I wonder if technically I should order something to do with cats though. lol It is fun to win stuff. :) For these reasons I am thankful for winning contests and I hope maybe my luck is slowly changing. :)

Day 308: Dropbox

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because it got too late. For this post I am thankful for dropbox. It is quite a neat and easy way to share photos with people. When I have more than a couple photos to share it gets annoying to send them over email. That is where dropbox comes in. I can just drag and drop files and share with anyone who has dropbox as well. It is really simple and takes very little time. For these reasons I am thankful for dropbox. Oh if you would like a referral link I would be more than happy to give one. lol

Day 307: frogs

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for frogs. I think they are cute and there seems to be a lot this year most likely because it has been so wet. Recently I was outside doing some stuff and came across a little wee one. It was really cute but very frightened because I almost put something right on top of it. I was able to pick it up in my hand and take a photo. I have attached the photo below. They are very useful as well as cute. Yes some may wonder how I find this little guy cute but to me he just is. :) Maybe his size makes him cuter. They eat lots of insects which I think is useful. I am hoping the frogs are not picky and don't mind eating some of the aphids that are really bad this year. But I don't know how picky they are about what they eat. Anyways I am thankful for frogs.

Day 306: old tv shows on dvd

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for old tv shows on dvd. Often I find myself wishing that there would be more shows like there used to be and there isn't so the next best thing is watching the old shows on dvd. Currently my family and I are working our way through "The Waltons"and it was on before I was even born but it is still such a great show! I should mention that I know there are some good shows on currently as well but they seem so few and far between. We worked our way through the Dick Van Dyke show as well which was another wonderful show. We watch one episode a night so it takes awhile to get through a show. We are now on Season 8 I think of the Waltons. I do watch some tv on tv but not alot. Plus when you watch a show on dvd you can skip all those annoying commercials. It is nice not having to sit through commercials or fast forward through them. If the old shows were not on dvd available to watch then it would be sad because alot of people would miss out on some wonderful shows. For these reasons I am thankful for old tv shows on dvd.

Day 305: wheel chair accessability

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for something that may seem odd so I should explain. As you may or may not know, I am still dealing with trying to gain back my strength from having 2 back surgeries. I had to use a wheel chair for a short time after the surgeries but I no longer need a wheel chair. In that sense I am really thankful for the wheel chair accessibility because it made getting around much easier. But right now I still deal with difficulty with lack of strength and opening heavy doors to office buildings is a big issue. Those wheel chair accessibility buttons that you press to open a door are often a necessity for me to be able to enter buildings. I may not be in a wheel chair but I still can't open doors very easily. What made me think about this today is because I had to go to the Provincial Building and they have one wheel chair accessible entrance but it is on the other side of the building which is difficult for me to get to. So I tried to use the other entrance which isn't so hard to get to but it isn't very accessible to me because the doors are so heavy. I ended up hurting my back and arms trying to get into the building. I managed to just barely pull it open far enough to squeeze through and it almost shut on me. For the life of me I really can't understand why doors need to be that heavy. I am thankful for the lady that helped me open the second set of doors because I would have been in a ton more pain if she hadn't of been there when she was. I am so thankful for the buildings that have the doors that open for you because often I need them to get in. It is difficult to have someone with you while you run errands just so you can get in to buildings. Sorry if this seems somewhat negative today. I am in a lot of pain and frustrated because I thought the other entrance was blocked due to construction so I tried the other entrance and wish I had checked for sure. I am frustrated that they don't make that building accessible from each entrance. But it reminded me almost instantly of all the buildings that are accessible in that way and it helped lessen the negative feelings of the situation. Thanks for reading through this post and bearing with me. Someday I will be strong enough and not need assistance but right now I do and I am thankful for it when ever it is available!

Day 304: bzzagent.com

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for bzzagent.com because it is a great site where you get to try out neat stuff and then you "bzz"about them. What happens is there is campaigns for products that bzzagents are invited to join in on and then you can sign up or pass on it. Then you try the product for free and share your opinions on it through face to face or social media or what ever communication you have. It is really fun. Then the feedback helps the companies I think and word is spread about good products. I think that is how it goes anyways. I have not been part of very many and I am not sure why exactly but when I do get the chance to be part of one I usually sign up. It could be I don't fit certain demographics that they are looking for or maybe I am not involved enough on the site? Anyways I was invited to another campaign today that I am super excited about! I get to try Trend Micro Titanium for one year free!!! I don't think I have ever had a campaign this exciting. Plus it comes at the perfect time when my Norton is about to expire so now I don't have to buy another program! Plus I get to try it out and find out what I think of it and they may possibly gain a new customer when this is over. I like being a part of bzzagent for the times when they have campaigns on products I see in the store but am not sure if I should spend the money on it or not. Because of bzzagent I find out how well the product works and I can share with my family and friends as well and they have a first hand account verses some advertising that no one really ever believes anyways. I think the companies that use bzzagent are smart because they possibly gain more customers through these campaigns if their products are good. Plus I love trying something free! You can not beat free. There are a lot of reasons to be thankful for www.bzzagent.com ! I don't think I have probably covered everything but if you are interested in learning more-feel free to check it out! For these reasons I am thankful for bzzagent. Thanks for reading my blog. :)

Day 303: Accomplishing goals

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for accomplishing goals. Goals can be as little as getting a room cleaned up or big like getting through college. I feel very good about myself when I am able to accomplish a goal I have set and I am thankful for that. I set a lot of goals-short term and long term. But I am also flexible with them because I have learned the hard way that there are many curve balls in life and life never really goes like I plan it to or the way I think I want it to go. But I set goals none the less. With out goals I feel I am sort of wandering aimlessly through life and not going towards anything. Sometimes I accomplish them and sometimes it doesn't work out and when I do accomplish something, I feel very good. So for that reason I am really thankful for the times I accomplish goals. Plus what ever I set out to do usually is to make my life better in some way so when I accomplish something, I should be better off which is also very good. Today I am thankful for accomplishing goals.

Day 302: snackfood

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post due to a migraine. For this post I am thankful for snackfood because I love it. Yes I love snackfood. I admit it. Right now I am into cheesies. I don't know why it tastes so good but it does. Popcorn is good too. I don't eat lots of snackfood but it is nice once in awhile. When I am craving sweets then I go for reese puffs. lol Yes the cereal. I don't like it for breakfast because it has too much sugar but as a snack it is great. :) Plus it isn't as bad for me as some other stuff I could choose to snack on. There isn't much more to say about snackfood and why I am thankful for it. I think this one is self explanatory maybe? Thanks for reading my blog.

Day 301: the shade

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for the shade. Today was the hottest day all year even though we didn't quite reach 30. Only 1 single degree off!! sooo close. But it was a nice hot day and wow it was nice! But it was even nicer in the shade. On a day like today the shade was a life saver if I wanted to be outside. This afternoon was a bit too hot for me to be in the sun very long-not that I am complaining though! Because of the heat, it made the shade very very nice. I took my cat out with me to go lay in the shade with a good book and we had a great time just taking it easy. I had my book and read awhile and I wish every day was like this. I wish I could be lazy like that every afternoon too but then it wouldn't be so special. :) My excuse is that it is Sunday so I am supposed to take it easy right? lol I would not have had such a good time if it wasn't for the shade though so I am very thankful for it.

Day 300: Energy

Hello again,
Today is Day 300!!! I have to admit some days I was a bit skeptical I could even make it to day 300. Some posts have not been so meaningful but every post does mean something to me.
Today I am thankful for energy. The energy I have right now is limited so I am thankful for every bit of it that I have. I look at my nephew and all the energy he has and wish I could tap into it somehow. lol But we have what we have and I am thankful for what I do have because I could have less. I have had less and I have experienced more energy too. I am thankful for the high level of energy I used to have as well. As I continue to recover from the surgeries I had, I do see my energy level rising slowly as well which I love. Right now I still have to rest a fair bit but I think I can hopefully get to a point where I can have enough to make it through a whole day without multiple rests. I am still young and there is a possibility I think. I hope so anyways. But if not and if I continue to have the amount I have now, that is ok too because I can't change it. I am learning to accept what I have-some days more than other days. lol After my surgeries I was wiped after simply walking to and from the bathroom so I suppose I know what it is like to have practically no energy. Maybe knowing what that feels like makes it easier to be ok with the level I have now. I would love to have more but I am learning to be ok with it if this is all I get. Going through what I have been through does make me thankful for any energy I do have. I do not take it for granted. If I am repeating myself in this post-I apologize. Some days it is difficult to express myself well. Another reason to be thankful for energy is being able to accomplish stuff. I just had to chuckle though because I am thinking I should finish up because I am exhausted. lol Writing about energy and I am exhausted. lol For this post I am thankful for energy.

Day 299: Safe trips

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for safe trips. What I mean is, every trip we take with our vehicle that is safe with no accidents. We went to Edmonton because I had an appointment with my specialist and we passed Ambulances on at least 5 different occasions. Each time the lights and sirens were going and I suppose they were passing us and not us passing them. It really made me think about every time we take our vehicle and every time we make it home safely. I know the chances of getting in accidents and I am always aware that it is good that I make it home safely but it is usually just a quick thought and not much else. The people who got in accidents most likely didn't expect to get in accidents either but they did. They didn't make it home safely. Their day drastically changed whether it was their fault or someone elses. Thinking about this made me very thankful for each safe trip I have had and there are many. It makes me thankful for the safe trip to and from Edmonton yesterday as well. It reminds me to be very alert while driving and thankful every time I pull into the garage safely. Often we can be good drivers but it doesn't mean we won't get in an accident because there are other people who are not good drivers who cause the accidents which can get us in an accident. Anyways for this post I am very thankful for each safe trip that I take and each time my family makes it home safely too.

Day 298: ladybugs

Hello again,
This post is for Thursday because I was unable to post. I hurt my back pretty good and wasn't sitting at the computer much. I would like to apologize for my absence. For this post I am thankful for ladybugs. This year aphids are a big problem and ladybugs are a great natural defense against them. I learned that the larvae can eat up to 5000 aphids. That is a huge amount! I have not seen as many ladybugs as I have hoped to see but I am thankful for the ladybugs that are out there eating aphids. Not only are they useful but they are cute too. :)

Day 297: Campfires

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for campfires/bonfires. Not because I had one today though but just because I love them and I have wonderful memories from sitting around a campfire with friends or family. There is something so fun about sitting around a campfire and roasting hotdogs, or marshmallows/smores and spending time with family or friends. Sometimes campfires/bonfires happen while camping or other times it's just a big get together for the day. I had hoped to go camping this summer and held off on writing about campfires but summer is almost over and I won't be able to go camping this year. Sometimes it is fun to do in the fall or winter where we huddle together around the fire and stay toasty warm. Plus where there is a campfire/bonfire there is food! lol For these reasons I am thankful for campfires/bonfires

Day 296: Fairness

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because once again I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for fairness. In a world where so much seems unfair alot of the time (i.e people suffering, people hurting other people etc) it is a wonderful thing to see fairness even if it is for something small. When you see someone get repaid for a good deed when they were expecting nothing in return or people holding up to their end of a promise-it is so nice to see. When I purposely look for examples of fairness, there seems to be more than I thought there was. I sometimes wonder if unfairness is more likely to get the attention and a good example could be the news. When we watch the news, the top stories are all about unfair acts like someone taking someone else's life or other bad stuff like buildings burning down and people losing everything. Whether someone causes it or not-the first part of the news is often so sad and unfair. The good, fair stuff is after if it is included at all. Or maybe it is because there is more bad in the world than there is good. Either way, I am thankful for fairness and seeing it. Another example that comes to mind is when people are not greedy and treat everyone fairly and give everyone their fair share/ people don't cheat others for their own gain. Or when people get credit for something they did and no one else tries to take the credit unfairly. There are more examples for sure but I will stop here so I can try to keep this short(er). It is wonderful to see fairness. So for this post I am thankful for fairness.

Day 295: A day to take it easy

Hello again,
Today was one of those rainy days that you are able to spend inside getting stuff done or in my case, catching up on rest. I am thankful for days I can take it easy and catch up on much needed rest. I have been really pushing myself the last while trying to get stuff done and I have been utterly exhausted but unable to let myself rest. There is so much to be done and no way to rest more than I absolutely have to. The last couple days I have felt like I could fall asleep standing up. So today I woke up and saw it raining and was like "nice!". lol A day I can't get stuff done outside so I can spend some time getting some rest and reading the rest of a book I have been unable to finish and I was also able to just take a nap this afternoon. I really needed it. What was an added bonus was having the cat join me and lay beside me. :) It was wonderful not feeling guilty to take a day to get some rest. It is hard when you go to bed tired and wake up tired because you need way more than 8 hrs to catch up on sleep. Anyways I wish I could take a whole week of days like this but I would feel guilty. I can't do alot in a day but I fill it up as much as I can so I am helping out somewhat. I am so tired so off to bed I go! Have a great week!

Day 294: MiracleGro

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because it got too late to post on here. For this post I am thankful for MiracleGro fertilizer. It really helps the plants-especially the Tomato plants. I get a special type that is specifically for Tomato plants and it really helps them grow better. We end up with better tomatoes and that is really something to be thankful for I think. MiracleGro sells a lot of different products and I really like the stuff I have tried and it makes a difference when I use it. That is why I am thankful for MiracleGro.

Day 293: a brand new day

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for brand new days. Each and every day is brand new and generally without the mistakes of the previous day (or week etc). Each day has the possibility to be different and not continue down the same wrong paths. We can start fresh and let go of the past. It is a lot easier said than done I know but each new day holds that promise. I love that even physically each day is a new day and just because I was in terrible pain the day before, it doesn't mean I will continue to be in that much pain the next day. Sometimes a good sleep is enough to help headaches or other aches and pains. We don't have to enter into a new day with the baggage of the day before. Of course I do struggle to leave the stuff behind and think about what I didn't get done the day before and what I did wrong and what not. I think many people struggle with that. I do love starting each day fresh with a clean slate. I am thankful I can do that and our past does not determine our future in a lot of ways. There are of course things in our past that affect us for the rest of our life for sure with far reaching consequences but there is so much that I am thankful I can leave in the past and start a fresh new path if I need to. I make so many mistakes and there are many I am happy and thankful to leave behind me. For these reasons I am thankful for a brand new day.

Day 292: A new computer

Hello again,
As much as I didn't want to spend money on a new computer I had to find a way to do so. I have alot of other things that I would prefer to spend money on but my computer was dying and running very very poorly and I use my computer for so much. Some of that could possibly earn me some money in the future but not sure yet. Plus with me still having difficulty getting out of the house sometimes, the computer is still a useful link to friends. I feel I should be defending my decision to buy a computer when money is so tight. But I suppose I have a right to do what I feel is right and I shouldn't feel the need to defend my actions-I will try not to. I have my reasons to do this and I thought about it alot and I felt it is the right decision. So I am able to be happy about this computer and how fast it is. It makes working on the computer so much easier. I no longer feel the need to throw it out the window several times a day. I can work on my photographs that I take and not have the whole computer freeze or crash. I don't have to worry about losing all my data any longer though it is always a possibility with every single computer. lol Having a better computer means I have room to run better photo editing software which hopefully will lead to me being able to sell my photos at some point. I can even run internet explorer without it freezing! lol so many positives! It is absolutely huge compared to my old computer and it will be fun to use I think. I am thankful I was able to work my budget to allow for a computer and to find a super good sale at the time I needed one that I could get a good computer with the amount of money I had available to use. It all seems to have worked out well in the end and I am very thankful for that as well. For this post I am thankful for a new computer.
I feel the need to mention that I got the computer from Future Shop and my experience with them and customer service was excellent to the point I feel the need to mention them. I reccomend Future Shop completely. No I am not getting paid to advertise. lol I am doing this only because I was treated exceptionally well and I am returning the favour I suppose the only way I can. I have dealt with Future Shop on several occasions and I am always pleased. Thanks for reading my little blurb about Future Shop. :)

Day 291: Cheesecake

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. I have been craving cheesecake lately so I made some. Oh my goodness it tastes sooooo amazing! Any cheesecake tastes amazing to me and I am so thankful for it and the genius who came up with it in the first place. I don't know who came up with the wonderful idea to mix the ingredients together to make cheesecake and to put it in a pie crust but I am forever grateful for that! Can you tell I love cheesecake? lol I think my favorite would be chocolate cheesecake though and top it with fruit and it is absolutely divine! I knew I could not spend a year listing blessings and not fit in cheesecake somewhere. :) For this post I am thankful for cheesecake (and the person who came up with it).

Day 290: Sciatica

Hello again,
This post is for Wednesday because I was unable to post. I honestly never thought I would be able to count sciatica as a blessing but I am attempting to. Honestly up till now, when the pain gets bad I would sometimes get resentful of people who have no problems walking around and seem to abuse it because it is so hard and painful for me. I watch people walking around without difficulty and I think about how hard it is to just walk to the bathroom on bad days. But with alot of thinking I think I see it a bit differently. I think I need to look at the times I am able to walk around easily and look at how grateful I am to be able to do that because I am aware of what it is like not to have that. Without sciatica I wouldn't be so aware of how wonderful it is to be able to walk around with ease. I would probably take it for granted because I wouldn't realize exactly how it feels to have pain in my legs that makes mobility difficult. When I am not dealing with the sciatica flaring up I will walk through a store and think how wonderful it is just to walk where I want and when I want to. I will walk outside and absolutely enjoy walking around the yard simply because I can. I can walk through the flower beds and enjoy the flowers. Of course it isn't impossible to walk with sciatica but it is just so painful that it makes it very difficult. I hope I have not been too depressing in this post-that is not my intent. I do find it difficult to be really positive with this one though. But I am thankful that it has shown me not to take mobility for granted and to enjoy it. Thanks for reading my blog.

Day 289: fresh beans!!!!

Hello again,
Today we got to pick our very first meal of fresh beans!!!! It was only a taste though because there were not alot but they tasted so amazing!!! There is no comparison between canned and fresh beans. It has been a long wait for the first beans of the season but it is worth it. They taste so wonderful. We only get to eat fresh beans maybe a couple months out of the year so it is sure a treat. If anything can taste like summer then it's fresh vegetables from the garden. The carrots are still not ready but they should be hopefully soon. The tomatoes are slowly growing and I can't wait for those either. But this post is about fresh beans. It is a really great break from canned beans. :)

Day 288: a good crop of berries

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for a good crop of berries. This year our fruit trees are producing a large amount of fruit and the berries are absolutely huge. I was picking saskatoons and they are almost as big as blueberries! I am not kidding at all. I don't think I have ever seen such beautiful saskatoons ever. It isn't just the saskatoons though-our honeyberries and raspberries and strawberries look amazing too. I suppose I have to be thankful for the rain then because I think the rain played a big part in the size of the berries. It seems as though the rain fell at the perfect time to help produce large juicy berries. I would have loved more sunshine but when I see the berries I feel like I don't mind so much. There is a positive in all the rain we had. :) We are freezing alot of the berries we have picked so we can eat them through out the next year if they last that long! lol The strawberries will last because we get several pounds each year now and we are still working on finishing last year's strawberries. lol We also have over 100 strawberry plants. I am very thankful for the size of the fruit though because it equals more fruit to eat. It definitely makes it more worth it to pick the fruit. They also taste much better as well in my opinion. For these reasons I am thankful for the good crop of berries.

Day 287: Colour

Hello again,
This post is for Sunday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for colour. I was thinking about what life would be like if we only saw in black and white like some animals do and I thought how much we would miss out on. This made me thankful for colour. Different colours affect our moods and make things exciting. Life would be pretty boring without colour. When I walk outside and look around me at all the beautiful colours of grass and flowers and trees, I love it. I love fall because of all the wonderful rich colours of the leaves and if we couldn't see that we would really be missing out. What would be so exciting about fall then if we could not experience the different vibrant colours? I suppose it could be easier to dress in the morning not having to worry about clashing colours. lol It would just be matching different shades of grey, black and white. lol That would get boring though I would think. For these reasons I am thankful that we can see and experience different colours.

Day 286: Voicemail

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for voicemail. I just thought today how useful it is to have voicemail even if people don't use it. We always say here if a call is important they will leave a message. Sometimes we simply are unable to get to the phone and it is nice when people leave a message so we know who called because the caller id doesn't always show who called. Sometimes it just says unknown so leaving a message is so important! Often if we don't recognize the caller and we are in the middle of something, we just let it go to message. It isn't necessary to run to the phone (when we are busy) every time it rings in my opinion. Voicemail makes it possible to not have to sit by the phone constantly for a call and we can go do what ever we need to get done while waiting. I hate being stuck inside because i am waiting for a call. So I don't stay inside because often when I do stay inside the person ends up not calling and I wasted a chance to go outside. On mobile phones voicemail is so nice. We took it off recently to save money but sometimes it would be handy to have. But usually caller id is enough on our cell phones. At least with either voicemail or caller id, we can get back to the person when we are able to and not attempt to answer while driving or talking to another person. Phones can be quite intrusive if we let them. It is ok to just let it ring and go to message. Anyways I have gone on long enough. It is for these reasons that I am thankful for voicemail.

Day 285: Barbecues

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday as I was unable to post. It's funny that I am sitting here during a thunderstorm blogging about barbecues. It seems often when we plan to use the barbecue it ends up raining or something so we barbecue in the rain. lol Thankfully it is on the veranda so that is possible. Anyways I love barbecued food. Hot dogs taste much better on the barbecue than they do simply being heated or boiled on the stove. Same with hamburgers and all the other meat that tastes so much better barbecued. Here since summer is so short we often barbecue when there is still snow on the ground. I wondered if that was weird and asked some friends and apparently it is normal... for some of us anyways. lol Barbecues are also such a great thing to have when it's too hot to cook inside or when the power goes out due to a storm and you have to find other ways to cook food. Our power doesn't go out nearly as much as it used to but I remember thinking it was so much fun when the power would go out and we would cook food on the barbecue. For these reasons I am thankful for barbecues

Day 284: Gloves!!

Hello again,
Today I am really thankful for gloves. I am not one to wear gloves if I don't need to but there is some things that I really don't want to touch with bare hands. The number one thing is weeds like thistles and stinging nettle. I really prefer wearing gloves when dealing with those things. lol Or when spreading horse manure around on the flower beds-I really like my gloves then too. lol After the last couple of days of handling horse manure I don't think my gloves will ever smell quite the same. lol But I do know the plants will be happy. :) What I do for my plants huh? Anyways there are alot of nasty things I prefer not to touch bare handed and I am always so thankful for my gloves at those times. They keep my hands from getting hurt or dirty with stuff that I shouldn't touch. Gloves keep my hands protected when they need to be. For these reasons, I am thankful for gloves.

Day 283: dance

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for dance. I actually thought to write about this as I was watching the show "So You Think You Can Dance" which I love watching! Dance has a language all it's own and can say so much through a series of movements. It tells a story without speaking a single word. Dance can be so moving to watch. I think what is so moving though is not just the steps but a combination of steps and emotion that the dancer brings it to life. I love watching the show because so many of the dancers are so good and they put the steps together with emotion so well to form a story that takes us on a journey. It is like when you read a really good book and you feel like you were there. A really good dance transports you for those few minutes through a story that the dancer is telling and you feel as though you are experiencing it along with them. I don't know if I am making sense here or not but I am trying to explain why dance is so amazing to me. Sometimes I watch the show and watch the dances and forget I am watching 2 dancers doing a series of steps and movements and I feel as though I am really watching a story unfold. I like watching dance because of the stories told and the amazing abilities of the dancers. So many of the movements they do look effortless but are so difficult that I wonder how on earth they possibly manage to move that way! I think we are meant to dance too-that we are created to dance. Maybe not to the level of a professional dancer but even just to move to the rhythm of music. I can't count how many times I have heard music and start moving to it because it just feels good. I love watching my 19month old nephew dance around when he hears music as well. I can't help but smile watching him move around and I can't help but move to the beat too. For these reasons I am thankful for dance.

Day 282: Great ideas

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post again. Lately I have been having alot of not so good days so I apologize. For this post I am thankful for great ideas. Great ideas don't always come along every day (at least not with me) and when they do it is really wonderful. Yesterday my mom and I were looking at the flower beds which never quite look as good as they could because of several reasons. One is that the dirt is so hard and lumpy that it never really looks very nice and takes away from the pretty plants. The dirt also lacks something that it is not nice black dirt but this greyish black which also takes away from the plants because it doesn't look nice. Other reasons include weeds and this year the poor plants have gotten way too much water and they are struggling. Anyways on to great ideas. We recently started getting horse manure shavings from the neighbor to mix into the garden dirt and we have a whole pile of it. My mom and I came up with the idea to spread it on top of the flower beds which covers up the not so nice dirt and almost looks like mulch. It also somehow makes the plants stand out and the colours of the flowers seem to have so much more colour. Plus from time to time we can mix it in the dirt and add more which will loosen up the dirt nicely. I am not kidding that the dirt is hard. When it is dry you can't even barely scrape it with a hoe. to try to get a shovel in it is very difficult. I am not sure what makes it so hard but we try what we can to loosen it up. The flower beds look pretty now. :) One problem solved!!! Now if I could figure out how to permanently eradicate the weeds..... lol

Day 281: August long weekend

Hello again,
Today is a civic holiday and the August long weekend. Here in Alberta we call it Heritage Day but I was unaware that it isn't classified as Heritage day all across Canada. I realized that today's holiday is actually about the abolition of slavery. I actually didn't know this. I just knew it was the August long weekend. But today I looked it up and it is a holiday to celebrate the end of slavery. It was chosen at this time because of the long stretch between Canada Day and Labour Day and it is a fairly long stretch without a holiday apparently. I think it is nice to know it as Heritage day to be mindful of all the different cultures that make up Canada. I am thankful for my heritage definitely. I love hearing about other people's heritage and where they come from as well. It is so neat that there are so many different cultures within Canada and we all make up one amazing country together. It is amazing how people hold on to where they come from yet call Canada home. In different parts of Canada, it seems to stand for different things which is neat. Anyways today I am thankful for the long weekend in August and here in Alberta it is Heratige day that we have a day to be thankful for our heratige-both where we came from before moving here and Canada's heritage as a country.

Day 280: a garage

Hello again,
This post is for Sunday because I was unable to post due to no internet. Today I am thankful for a garage. Right now I am fortunate to live somewhere with a garage and that is wonderful. I love that I don't have to go through the rain to get to the vehicle and I can bring in groceries and stuff in the rain. Also in the summer, it is nice because the car doesn't get super hot sitting in the sun because it is in the nice cool garage. Also in the winter we don't have to dig the vehicles out of the snow after a snowfall and we don't have to scrape the windshields free of ice and snow either. There are many benefits to a garage including storing "stuff" into. lol

Day 279: Diversity

Hello again,
This post is for Saturday because I was unable to post. Being the August long weekend and the Heritage festival is going on in Edmonton I thought it would be a good weekend to talk about diversity. I think diversity is a wonderful thing because we can learn so much from people who are different from ourselves. It is neat to learn about different cultures first hand. Plus diversity makes communities interesting because we are not all the same. If we were all the same it would be very boring.
