Day 223: Sunglasses

Hello again,
Today I have been giving so much more thought into what I consider blessings and really rethinking so much but I still feel I have such a small grasp on it that I can't explain it yet. I would like to add that I heard the song Blessings by Laura Story and it really got me thinking. I have looked at my chronic pain and wondered if I can ever be thankful for that but have always struggled. Yet maybe it is something to be thankful for because blessings and good come out of that. Maybe soon I can elaborate more on what I am experiencing but for now I would like to post about something simple but important. :)
Today I am thankful for sunglasses. I am not thankful for them for looks, although some are stylish. lol I am thankful for what they do for my eyes. My eyes are quite sensitive to light and sunglasses definitely come in handy to shield my eyes. They also shield my eyes from the harmful uv rays in the sun that can hurt my eyes. They make it possible to see on really bright sunny days because I don't have to squint to see. I am incredibly thankful for them. I think that is all I have to say about sunglasses. :) I hope you all have a good week and thanks for reading my blog. :)

Day 222: Dragonflies!

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for dragonflies and I thought of posting about this because I saw the first dragonfly of the season today!!! They eat mosquitos so I absolutely looooovvvvve them!! lol I have read that they eat ants as well but I don't know if this is true or not. What I found neat years ago when researching dragonflies was finding out that each different colour of dragonfly is actually a different type. I used to think a dragonfly was a dragonfly and they came in different colours. lol Also sometimes people mistake damesflies for dragonflies and they are related but actually not the same. Anyways enough about that. Dragonflies and damesflies are beautiful/interesting insects to me and I enjoy watching them almost as much as watching butterflies. I love anything that eats mosquitoes though and I don't think we can ever have too many dragonflies! If they run out of mosquitoes, I am sure there are lots of other insect pests for them to nibble on. lol This is why I am thankful for dragonflies.

Day 221: mp3 players

Hello,
This post is for yesterday and for this post I am thankful for mp3 players. I seriously thought I had already posted about this because I love having my mp3 player with me either outside while I do stuff in the greenhouse, when I am somewhere that a radio or stereo isn't available or times I want to listen to music but I don't want to disturb the people around me. I can put music on my phone as well but I don't like it as much. My mp3 player has a radio as well so I can switch to that when ever I want to listen to the radio. Music is great and I love mp3 players. I find it funny how far things have come though even just in my life. When I was little, cassette walkmans were the thing to have and they were big and bulky but they were cool. lol They only held one tape where mp3 players hold many many times that. Then they came out with cd players and I was all excited over this new technology and when I finally got one, I was somewhat dissapointed because you couldn't move around too much or it skipped. Remember that? lol It was a pain. Then they came out with mp3 players and this is by far the best obviously because it's small, holds a ton of music and doesn't skip. I don't know what will come out next but I like the mp3 player. So as you can see, I am quite thankful for mp3 players. :)

Day 220: weather radar

Hello again,
I am not sure if I have covered this somewhat in any other posts but I don't think so. Today I am thankful for the weather radar that shows where storms are and the direction they are heading etc. Any time there are storms expected, the radar is very useful to my family and I. We like to know what is going on and whether the dark clouds we see on the horizon are coming towards us or moving away. It helps us because we then know if we should be covering stuff/putting stuff away and whether it will miss us and how long it might last. It is always 10minutes behind so we can't know real time but it gives a very good idea of what's going on when the news isn't on and the weatherman isn't telling us what is going on. :) If something severe is headed our way, we often have time to pull the flower planters back against the house to keep them from getting hit by hail or heavy rain. Tonight we had a bad thunderstorm and the radar proved useful once again to help us know roughly where it was/how far away it was and whether it might hit us or miss us. We thought it was headed our way from what we saw on radar and it hit us head on. This is why I am thankful for weather radar.

Day 219: Soap and water

Hi again,
Today I am thankful for good ol' soap and water. Why? Because I am like a magnet for dirt. lol I think it's genetic because my dad is the same. lol I think it also has to do with me loving gardening and not being able to keep out of the dirt. lol Without soap and water there is little chance I would ever get clean. I swear I am sometimes covered in dirt not even an hour after taking a shower. lol I wash my hands several times a day because I have my hands wrist deep in dirt so often through out the day. I don't mind-I love gardening and getting covered in dirt is just part of it I guess. :) Taking photos isn't always the cleanest either-sometimes I have to practically lay in the mud to get the right angle but I don't mind. lol I like to be clean though too and soap and water makes that possible. I think while growing up that my mom was quite thankful for it too and still is. :) I try to stay clean-I really do but somehow it doesn't work so well. I know the phrase "that's what soap and water is for" very well. No worries about getting dirty-that's what soap and water is for. :) Soap is also good because it kills germs that are in the dirt and there are some nasty ones apparently. Never dealt with any as far as I know though so that is good. So I am thankful for soap and water.

Day 218: Living near a marsh

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday. Yesterday I managed to walk down to a marsh that is in the field across from us and down the road just a little bit. I brought my camera because I know there are alot of birds there right now and hoped to get some good shots. I spotted a ton of ducks, red winged black birds, Canadian geese, etc. I got some great photos as well. :) I love visiting the marsh because it's so full of life and I love listening to all the birds singing away. Even all the quacking sounded neat in with the red winged black birds singing. I love that I can take a short walk and experience this and I don't have to travel somewhere to see it. It is neat watching them live with one another and they all have their place. They are not fed by people and not tamed-they are wild and happy. I am just a visitor in their world, appreciating wildlife living in between the cat tails and the grass that is often overlooked. So this is why I am thankful for living near a marsh. Below are a few photos I took and also posted on my flickr page. I hope you enjoy them!

Day 217: Our vegetable garden

Hello again,
First off, I would like to apologize for my absense. I would like to explain my reasons but I am in no way trying to make excuses. Tuesday I had another spinal injection and also celebrated my sister's birthday and I was pretty spent by the time I got home again. Both were very positive because the injection helps me to deal with the pain and birthdays are always wonderful! Yesterday I was exhausted still from the day before and the computer was on the fritz so I didn't get on my computer except to try fix it. So today I am attempting to catch up. :)
This post is for Tuesday and on Tuesday I thought alot about what to post because I have already wrote about being thankful for the injections and I still am but I made a rule for myself to be thankful for something different each day. So that was out. Several blessings came to mind, but I have already written about them so I really had to think. lol So I thought about being thankful for having a garden to grow food. We have quite a large vegetable garden and I have always felt so blessed to have it because we can grow such a large amount of food that we would otherwise have to buy. There are alot of people who live in town and don't have gardens or gardens this size so it is a real blessing. I thought of this because we planted our garden this weekend before it started raining. :) So hopefully when the sun comes out, the seeds will sprout and grow like crazy. Thanks for reading my blog.

Day 216: Rainy days

Hello again,
Today we have had an almost complete day of rain and it isn't the kind of rain that comes as a downpour that washes everything away. Today we have had a nice steady rain that thoroughly waters everything as it soaks into the ground. What I like about this kind of rain is that while it is gloomy outside for pretty much the entire day, it gives all the plants and trees a good drink of water without harming them. It also doesn't wash away seeds that we have just planted in the garden and it doesn't come down so fast that it runs off before it can soak in the ground. Would I prefer sunshine and warm weather? Definitely. But I also realize we need rain. I just hope that once it starts that it doesn't have trouble stopping. Days like this are also wonderful for getting stuff done inside that start to be neglected because I want to soak up every precious moment of sunshine. I do this because it seems summer is so short and then winter is back again. Downpours and thunderstorms are exciting but they don't seem to do alot for the plants. So I am thankful for rainy days. :)

Day 215: Bugspray

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am soooo thankful for bugspray!! The mosquitoes have been so bad lately and I swear they are on a mission to eat me alive. lol Bugspray has become my friend so that I can continue to go outside. It is truly amazing how well it works though I wish there were better alternatives at my disposal to keep the bugs away. I do spray it on my clothing as much as possible so it isn't on my skin which I hope is safer. Bugspray has made it possible to go outside and keep from being cooped up indoors to avoid the mosquitos. I would go insane being stuck indoors while it is nice weather outside. As you can see, I am very thankful for bugspray. :)

Day 214: Sunscreen

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for something I forgot to use which reminded me how thankful I am for it which is sunscreen. In my defence, I am still getting used to the sun being hot enough and remembering to think about apply sunscreen. So I got a sunburn today which causes me to be quite thankful for sunscreen. It prevents the painful burns that come with too much of a good thing. Sunscreen also helps prevent skin cancer which can happen when you don't protect your skin properly. It enables me to enjoy the sunshine without the painful side effects I suppose you could call it. lol There are so many benefits to sunscreen so why wouldn't we use it right? I admit I don't always remember and end up paying the consequences and I try not to complain because it's my own fault. lol Anyways this is why I am thankful for sunscreen.

Day 213:Volunteers

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post.
For this post I am thankful for volunteers and also being able to volunteer. So many organizations would be impossible to run without volunteers who give their time to help others out and make a difference. Whether it be for something like the food bank or walks to find cures for diseases, they all need volunteers and people step up and help out. Because of volunteers, we are able to have alot of services that we otherwise wouldn't so I am very thankful for volunteers. I also am thankful to be able to volunteer because it is nice to help others out and make a difference what ever way I can. I don't get to volunteer as much as I would like to but I do what I can. So this is why I am thankful for volunteers.

Day 212: Fresh mowed lawn

Hello again,
This post is for Thursday because I haven't been able to post for a couple of days. I apologize for that.
For this post I am thankful for freshly mowed lawn. Simply because it looks so beautiful when it is all nice and even. I have heard it smells nice too but I can't smell so I can not comment on that. I suppose I am thankful for the beauty of it more than anything. I think it is neat that we can find beauty in something so simple as fresh cut grass.

Day 211: Reel Mowers

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for reel mowers. There are a few reasons for this. The first is that they are environmentally friendly because they have no motor-you are the motor. lol Secondly, they provide a good work out because you are doing alot more work and exercise is very good. We have one and I have started using it for small spurts to get some exercise and also hopefully gain some strength back into my back and arms by pushing it. Yet at the pace I go, it could take weeks to get our lawns done. lol We have 2 lawns and both are fairly large. I know I only managed to go for a few minutes but I enjoy feeling like I have accomplished something and the feeling that I got some exercise. I am just hoping that I don't regret it tomorrow, that I am really sore or something. For most people, it is a good workout and environmentally friendly. We all need exercise and it is good to be "green" so you can't go wrong! If you are concerned about time-I think it doesn't really take much longer than a gas push mower but is alot better workout. :) Though I could be wrong-it has been years since I operated a push mower. We have used a tractor to mow our lawns for some time now because of the amount of lawn we have. It can take close to 1hr on the tractor going at a considerable speed to get the lawns done. For us, using only a reel mower for the entire lawn may not be practical but we can definitely use it for a portion of it. So this is why I am thankful for reel mowers. :)

Day 210: People pulling together in a time of need

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for people pulling together in a time of need. Just to clarify, I am not the one in need. :) Recently a town called Slave Lake in Northern Alberta had a wildfire pass through part of the town and many homes and businesses were completely destroyed. Seeing the pictures and video causes me to cry because it is truly heartwrenching and it looks like a war zone. There is so much devastion but out of the ashes comes stories of generosity and people pulling together to help those who lost everything. From something so heartwrenching comes something so heartwarming to see people pulling together with donations for those in need. I know that it is still so sad but at the same time it is so neat hearing about the amount of donations pouring in. It seems that when ever a tragedy hits that we all step up to help each other out and I think that is amazing. I wish that these tragedies didn't have to happen and I don't understand why they do but I do find it wonderful and comforting seeing people's generosity. It doesn't take away the pain people are experiencing but I hope it may help them begin to move forward. I know that it will take quite awhile for the clean up to start and rebuilding to happen and it will be a long road ahead... but I think with people pulling together to support those in need that it may be even just a tiny bit easier to move forward. I wish I could do more as I am sure we all feel but each of us doing what we can (however big or small) will make a difference. I am so thankful to see people pulling together because it reminds me how much good we can do when we come together and that we do pull together when a community needs help. Thanks for reading my blog.

Day 209: Being sensitive

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for something that is sometimes viewed in a negative way which is being sensitive. I am sensitive and often thought it was a bad thing but I am beginning to realize that it can be a good quality. I see that being sensitive, I am more aware of how others are feeling and I can be of more help to them. Sometimes it is tough because I almost feel like I am experiencing other people's feelings along with them and it stays with me and I can get overwhelmed. Yet I realize that it enables me to better understand and help others so it can be good. I also feel thankful that in a society where it is easy to become desensitized with all of the images thrown at us, I am still sensitve and still feel for others who are going through bad circumstances. I think it is when we become desensitized that we are in trouble. I know I have my moments where I am not so sensitive and say dumb things that I shouldn't but none of us are perfect right? I also feel horrible when I have hurt or wronged someone and I feel the need to make it right and sometimes that is not good because I end up bothering people more than making things right again. So I know there are downsides but for the most part I think being sensitive is something to be thankful for. Something I have seen because of being sensitive is that so many people are suffering through something and we are not alone when we are going through pain. So many times we put on a brave face and a smile and act like we have it all together. Then it starts to seem like everyone else has it together and is fine while we are alone dealing with so much pain and we are the only ones with our lives falling to pieces. Yet sometimes if you look beyond the smile you will see a broken heart. Sometimes people are just happy though and I do love encountering those people. :) I have tried to be tough and not care what other people think of me or what ever but it isn't me. So I am deciding to try to embrace being sensitive and be thankful for that part of me. So this is part of me and who I am and I am thankful for it. :)

Day 208: Firefighters

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for Firefighters and the wonderful work they do. They risk their lives each day to fight fires and keep people safe. I am thinking of this alot right now because of the wildfires happening currently in Alberta and how the firefighters are working so hard to get the fires under control and to keep them from spreading to people's homes. What they do is amazing and I am so thankful and grateful for the work that they do. They are ready to go at all hours of the day and they will run into burning buildings to save people who are trapped. I don't think I could do their job and I admire them for the work that they do. This is why I am thankful for Firefighters.

Day 207: Journals

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for journals. I don't always get around to writing in mine but I do have one and write in it from time to time. I like them because I can record my thoughts and then look back on them. I like to look back on journal entries because sometimes I can see/realize stuff that I could not notice at the time. I also like to use it as a reminder of what I have been through and how far I have come in terms of limitations or challenges and lessons I have learned. I also use the journal as a way to keep record of events in my life because I have a tendency to be forgetful. lol Keeping a journal is also a great way to vent about stuff bothering me that I can get out on paper so I don't keep it bottled up inside. These are some of the many benefits to keeping a journal which is why I am thankful for journals. :)

Day 206: Flower Bulbs

Hello again,
This post is actually for yesterday. For this post I am thankful for flower bulbs. They are so easy to plant in the ground-just dig a hole and drop them in and cover them up! Something I think is really neat is how they know which way is up. You can (accidentally) plant a bulb upside down and it will still know which way is up and grow the right way. They are also lovely to see in the spring time as they are the first to flower and provide early colour when the other perennials are just starting to grow. If it wasn't for bulbs, I would have to wait that much longer to see flowers! So this is why I am thankful for flower bulbs. :)

Day 205: Rain Barrels

Hello again,
Yesterday I went to update my blog and was dissapointed to find out that Blogger was doing a scheduled maintenance and I was not able to log in. The blog was "read only" so I am hoping it was available still if anyone tried to view it. So that is why I didn't post yesterday.
For this post, I am thankful for Rain Barrels. The first reason is that they collect good water for the plants and I can avoid using well water. Our well water isn't really healthy for us or our plants because it is "slightly corrosive" among other things. The only way we can drink that water is putting it through a filtration system. For the plants, we could use the filtered water but it would use up too much of it and straight well water does not do any favours for the plants. Our well water kills some plants and leaves others struggling. So we use rain water which is a much better alternative to any tap water-not just ours. Our plants thrive when they get rain water because of the useful stuff like bacteria in the water that the plants like. So I am thankful for rain barrels because they collect and store the rain water for me to use! We don't have a rain barrel that we bought from a store but actually just have a barrel under the spout to collect the water. We got so much rain last year that we actually stored in a larger barrel which we had in the shop so we could continue to use it as long as it lasted. We are actually still using rain water from last year. lol The plants really do alot better when given rain water. I suppose this post is a mix of being thankful for rain barrels and rain water. Both are very useful especially with water being a limited resource. So this is why I am thankful for rain barrels. :)

Day 204: washing machines

Hello again,
Today I was planning on being thankful for just cleaned bed sheets but didn't quite know how to put it in the title that it would not appear strange. lol So I opted to be thankful for washing machines and everything they clean. First of all, I am thankful for washing machines because we don't have to clean everything by hand. I have heard about the way clothes used to be cleaned by hand in the old days a few times. lol Second, I am thankful for them because it's so nice to wear clean clothes that are not full or dirt or mud or what ever. What...I like to play in the dirt. lol Mainly gardening but sometimes I still like jumping in a mud puddle or two. lol Yet I also like to clean up after. :) I like the feeling of clean clothes. I also like the feeling of freshly washed bed sheets. Or towels that were just washed and still so nice and fluffy and soft. I also love that washing machines are getting more environmentally friendly so that less water is wasted and less power is used. :) So maybe you can get the fresh out of the washing machine/dryer feeling more often. :) This is why I am thankful for washing machines.

Day 203: Bees

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for bees and all that they do. Bees not only pollinate our flowers but they produce honey and beeswax that we use for alot of different stuff. I have read that bees will visit about 2 million flowers to produce one pound of honey! One bee will visit up to 1000 flowers in a single day! The reason I think this is so amazing is that each flower they visit is a flower that is pollinated that will produce seeds for new plants or food for us to consume. If we did not have bees, we would have to find a way to pollinate all of those flowers ourselves and I can not imagine doing that! I also don't know if we could quite do as good of a job as bees can. I realize that bees can be a nuisance as well if they build nests in bad spots and it becomes dangerous for people and sometimes stuff has to be done but for the most part, I think bees are not so bad. I also don't have an allergy to bees so I suppose it is easier for me to say that. I do think the work that bees do is quite amazing and would hate to see all of the bees disappear. Reading about bees is quite fascinating because all that they do.

Here are a few bee facts to leave you with!
Bees have a very good sense of smell.
Different bees have different jobs within the colony and work together.
Bees wings go about 200 beats per second which makes the buzzing noise.
Bees have a remarkable ability to learn and remember things.
Apparently a bee's life span is about 6 weeks and Honey bees will produce about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey in their lifetime. Bumble bees don't produce much honey like the honey bees do.
A bee collects enough nectar and pollen in one trip to weigh over half their weight.
Unlike Honey bee queens, bumblebee queens will work in the hive with the other bees.
Bumble bees don't lose their stinger and die like Honey bees when they sting.

Day 202: Sunshine while it rains

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday but I didn't miss posting because of pain but technology this time. My computer was tied up with backing up files and my phone wouldn't let me post. lol I backed up my computer for the first time so it took about half the day and most of the night. But now if my computer crashes then I hopefully don't have to worry so much. :)
For this post I am thankful for something that doesn't always happen very often which is having sunshine while it is raining. We had a nice spring shower last night and the sun was setting and shining through the clouds. It is so beautiful because the rain almost sparkled as the sunlight illuminated the falling rain drops. It was a really light rain shower and felt somewhat warm so I took the opportunity to walk outside. I may be a bit crazy but I love to walk outside in the rain sometimes, especially at times like this when the sun is shining. I am thankful for these moments of beauty and I try to take them in when I can so that for even just a few moments everything is good. During this time, I can forget what ever "stuff" is happening in my life and just enjoy the beauty around me. I also took some time to listen to the birds and the frogs who were very happy for the rain as well! Thanks for reading my blog!

Day 201: Mothers!!

Hello again,
Today I think it probably comes as no surprise that I am thankful for mothers. :) My mother is amazing and has always put others first and has sacrificed so much to do so. I don't think I could ever come up with words to express my gratitude for her and what she has done for me. She has been there for me through so much stuff and celebrated with me in my achievements. She has never stopped loving me even when I have done wrong or treated her badly and has forgiven me over and over. I appreciate everything she has done for me so much! I saw this poem that I included in the card I gave her and I want to share it here as well. This is for all the wonderful mothers out there! Happy Mother's Day!

What Is a Mother
By Helen Steiner Rice

It takes a mother's love
to make a house a home,
A place to be remembered,
         no matter where we roam.
It takes a mother's patience
to bring a child up right,
And her courage and her cheerfulness
to make a dark day bright.
It takes a mother's thoughtfulness
to mend the heart's deep hurts,
And her skill and her endurance
to mend little socks and shirts.
It takes a mother's kindness
to forgive us when we err,

To sympathize in trouble
and bow her head in prayer.
It takes a mother's wisdom
         to recognize our needs
And to give us reassurance
by her loving words and deeds.

Day 200: Recorded History

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. One of these days my back will not affect my ability to sit at the computer long enough to write on here. lol So for this post I am thankful for recorded history. What I mean is that history has been written down and saved so that we can read it and hopefully learn from it. Learn from past mistakes so as not to repeat them again and from victories that we can remember wonderful people and what they did. I am guessing it isn't hard to see that I am a fan of history. lol I think it is very valuable to know our past. It is very good to have it recorded that we can see it. I was just thinking about this yesterday because of something I saw. I can't imagine what it would be like if nothing was ever written down and we had no records of events and what not. Even family trees are a form of recorded history. How would we know weather averages and record temperatures if it wasn't recorded? That would not be good. How could we know about and remember people who made amazing break throughs in medicine if it wasn't written down? Anyways, for this post I am thankful for recorded history.

Day 199: Garage Sales!!!

Hello again,
Today I am thankful for garage sales. They are so fun to go to and look through for stuff you can use. Sometimes you can walk away with a ton of great stuff for a great price. I know that people love to visit garage sales for antiques and what not which would be fun. I would have no idea what to look for in terms of antiques so I am unable to do that but it could be fun as well. the stuff can be in very good shape for a very good price. Sometimes the stuff is practically brand new even! Today I went to a garage sale that was held by a friend of mine and found some neat stuff and very glad I went. :) I got a beautiful plant stand and a bunch of books and a few things for my nephew. I am happy with what I got today. :) There is a danger of ending up with a lot of stuff you can't use though. lol My mom has great advice for that- remember to not get anything that you don't immediately have a place for. :) I saw some amazing stuff today but I knew I would not have a place for it and I didn't need it so I left it for others to get who could use it more than me. Anyways I am thankful for garage sales and the neat stuff you can find.

Day 198: Flyer day!

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday because I was unable to post. For this post I am thankful for what I call flyer day which is the day we get our flyers. :) I love looking through the flyers for the deals and sales that I can take advantage of. I have always loved looking through flyers along with my younger sister and some think it is odd but we don't care. lol We especially love finding deals that we can combine with coupons to get amazing deals! Sometimes we can get stuff free or nearly free which is great! Otherwise we get good deals. We love that we can spend a bit of time looking through the flyers to save alot of money. It is very useful because lots of stores will price match other stores sales so you don't have to travel to different stores to get all the deals. Most of the time it will already be matched but you have to be aware of what is on sale to take advantage of it. That is why the flyers are so amazing! Getting them on the same day makes Thursdays a highlight. lol Yeah my life isn't that exciting. lol I hope my life will get better eventually and more eventful but that's another story. Flyer day means finding sales to make it possible to stretch the money I have so I can live on what I have. Anyways this is why I am thankful for flyer day!

Day 197: hearing something at the right time

Hi again,
Today I am thankful for hearing something at the right time when I need to hear it. What I mean is when I am going through something and trying to find answers and then I hear something that clarifies things that I am thankful for that. Or even hearing a song that speaks to me about something I need to hear. The other day I turned on the radio and I heard a song that the words just hit me and almost brought me to tears. People can debate where this comes from, whether it is God affecting stuff or coincidence or what ever and people do but what ever the case- I am thankful for the times I hear what I need to when I need to hear it. Sometimes it is a song that I have heard so many times but then when I am going through certain circumstances, it will hit me or click in a different way or help me to realize stuff.... or I will just relate to it differently. It is hard to explain I suppose but I think we have all been there maybe. Sometimes for me it is that I am going through something and I hear someone speaking about a topic that has to do with what I am dealing with and things make more sense. I am very thankful for that. I hope this makes sense-I feel that lately I am having a harder time expressing myself and my thoughts. It could be because I am distracted and need to focus more. lol Anyways this is what I am thankful for today. :)

Day 196: Cloudy days

Hello again,
This post is for today and I know I normally post at night but today I know what I am thankful for and want to post about here so I thought I would do it now. Today I am thankful for cloudy days. During the spring, cloudy days are cooler and not great to be outside so then I can stay inside and get stuff done that I would otherwise avoid. During the summer, cloudy days are good days to be outside working in the garden and what not because it is not too hot to be outside working. I find when it's sunny and hot outside that it is more difficult to work outside because you're sweating and really hot where on cloudy days it is just nice. Today is a cloudy day and I am thankful because I can get stuff done inside that I have been starting to neglect because it's been weather to be outside lately. It hasn't been incredibly nice but nice enough to be getting stuff done and ready for the growing season to come. Today is one of those blustery cloudy days with the threat of rain that it is much nicer to be inside. So I am thankful for cloudy days to get things done. I got a fair bit done actually today inside where if it had been nice-I would have been outside. I know that means I don't get stuff done outside but it can wait. It is good to catch up inside too (like with cleaning lol). Anyways this is why I am thankful for cloudy days.

Day 195: The ability to vote!

Hello again,
This post is for yesterday and I didn't post because I was actually glued to the tv watching election results and I apologize. For this post I am thankful for the ability to vote not only because we had a federal election yesterday but that we get to have our say over who is in government. We have a voice and we can choose to take advantage of it and vote. People in some countries around the world do not have this ability and they are willing to die for this right. Yet here we are able to vote without fear of getting shot or have the results tampered with or even to have the chance to have an election where the people decide. The funny thing is that many people don't vote here despite our ability/freedom to vote. People here take it for granted and make excuses but still complain when they don't like what is happening with the government. I always say that if you don't vote-you can't complain. Yes I know that we may vote for a party that ends up not getting in but if we don't go for that reason along with many others with the same thoughts, of course it will affect who gets in. Just think that if a bunch of people don't vote because they think their vote won't count and they all want the same party to get in... if they did vote then maybe that party would get in. We have an amazing opportunity to have a say in who our government is and that is pretty amazing! I am so thankful I live in a country that I can vote and not somewhere where I have no say in the matter and could be killed for trying. I know the election is now over and thankfully we shouldn't have another one for 4yrs but the next time an election comes, please consider voting. It is amazing to have the ability to vote.

Day 194: Butterflies

Hello again,
This post is actually for Sunday which I missed posting. It was more of an oops because I forgot to. I meant to post and I had it picked out already early in the day but somehow it slipped my mind that night. So here is the post I intended to write on Sunday. :)
For this post I am thankful for butterflies. As you may have guessed, it is indeed inspired by seeing the first butterfly of this spring. Yet I am not thankful for butterflies just because I saw the first one of this year on Sunday. There is more to be thankful for about these wonderful insects. First off, they are absolutely beautiful to watch with their colourful wings and the way they move from flower to flower. I can not imagine a garden without the beautiful butterflies fluttering about and would be very sad if we had none in our garden. They seem so dainty as well to me. But Butterflies bring more to our gardens than just beauty. They are also very useful because they help pollinate flowers while they drink their nectar. They help the bees with this very important job which is great! If we had no insects to pollinate our flowers, then we would have no food or seeds because they require pollination to produce it. We could do it by hand but when I think about a huge field and attempting to pollinate it by hand.... I become so much more grateful for the bees and the butterflies and who ever else helps pollinate flowers!!! It would take forever to do. So with the butterfly's beauty and usefulness, I think it is very clear why I am thankful for them!
